Arbutin is a plant-derived ingredient sourced from uva ursi (bearberry) that fades dark spots and melasma by blocking the melanin-production pathway. Both forms inhibit tyrosinase, but research consistently shows alpha-arbutin is more potent at equivalent concentrations and remains more stable in formulations.
