DATA REPORT

The Dupe Data Report

We compared the full ingredient lists of luxury cosmetics and their affordable counterparts, pair by pair, and published 390 verified pairs. This page summarizes what that data shows. Every number is computed from the published pairs and updates automatically as pairs and market prices refresh.

Prices verified as of 2026-07-11 (Naver market price). Sample = 390 published verified dupe pairs.

What the numbers say

Start with what counts as a dupe here. Base ingredients that appear in nearly everything, like water and glycerin, are ignored. What we compare is whether the actives that actually do the work overlap, checked against both full ingredient lists. Only pairs that pass get a market price attached and published — those 390 pairs are this sample.

A high overlap count alone does not make a good dupe. Hyaluronic Acid tops the table below at 260 pairs (67%). That mostly proves the ingredient is common enough to appear at every price point. What matters is not how many ingredients overlap but which ones do.

For the same reason, not every luxury product has a dupe. Many of the products we compared are built around signature ingredients that budget formulas rarely carry, so they never reach the publishing bar. And even with the same actives, concentration and formulation still differ — each pair page shows that comparison in full.

Still, the reason this data exists is simple: price gaps that the ingredient list cannot explain show up often. 105 pairs held up even above ₩200,000, and half of the published pairs save more than 83%. By category, start where the gap is widest — Sheet mask at a 92% median.

How we verify

Each pair is confirmed by placing the two full ingredient lists side by side and checking which key actives they share. Prices come from Naver market listings and refresh on a schedule, so figures here move with the data. Shared ingredients do not mean identical products — concentration and texture can differ, and each pair page shows the full comparison.

Limits of this data

Read these figures with three things in mind. First, the sample only contains pairs that passed verification, so it does not represent the whole cosmetics market. Second, the ingredient database behind the comparisons skews toward products popular in Korea. Third, prices are Naver market prices, which can differ from department-store list prices. We keep interpretations that would go beyond these limits off this page.
